Sira began her training in the Middle East dance in 1991. Her Armenian heritage inspired her to explore her roots in the Middle Eastern culture and dance. She started in Serena Studios and expanded her style by studying with various other reputable teachers. She has been a member of dance companies such as Serena's dance co., Mystical Motion dancers, Benat Nessma dance co., Shoshana's dance theater co. and Jehan's Goddess Dance co.
Sira has studied middle eastern music history and theory, which she feels is important in order to be a well-rounded musical dancer and teacher. Sira began teaching regular classes from 1998 to present. Her classes focus on the fluidity of movement, control of various hip movements, learning to "feel" the music from the soul and most importantly, having fun doing it.
Sira has performed in theatrical settings as well as clubs, restaurants and private parties. Stage performances include Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park, Brooklyn Museum, Evolving Arts Theater, Spring garden Arts Center (U.K.) Queens Theater in the Park, Dance Space Inc. as well as the legendary Ibis Supper Club and Cedar's of Lebanon. Television appearances include MTV, Good Morning America, Good Day New York, QPTV, channel 11 news and coverage on Japanese, Indian and Russian programs. Sira has also performed in Florida and London, England. She continues to travel to London for annual performances.
Special skills include group choreography, teaching, props such as sword, cane, zils, veil, candles, wings, scarves, tray, and gypsy tambourine.
Sira graduated from Touro College in 2000 with a master's degree in Occupational Therapy. She is also a certified Reiki practitioner.
