Layla began studying Middle Eastern dance at the age of 19 at Serena Studios in New York City where she became a teacher at the studio. In addition to being a member of Serena Dance Theater and performing in such prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center and Riverside Church, she directed the advanced student troupe, Project Cheer, which performed at many nursing facilities, veterans’ residences and street festivals.
Her passion for Middle Eastern dance lead her to study with other masters of this dance form such as Yousry Sharif, Ramzi El-Edlibi and Elena. Layla has performed in Egypt, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean as well as the East and West Coasts of the United States. She is known for her precision in technique, expert finger cymbals and enthusiastic audience interaction. Layla was also a member of Kismet Dance Ensemble, an international dance troupe, presenting dance pieces from the Middle East, Africa and Spain, which appeared in such esteemed venues as Queen Central Library Concert Series and United Nations events.
Currently, Layla is a member of The Sword and the Veil International Dance Ensemble as well as teaching/performing throughout the metropolitan area.
